How to set up your locations and kennels
Build the real hierarchy your building actually has, once.
- Open Locations. Add each physical site your organization uses - a shelter building, a satellite adoption center.
- Add units under a location. Buildings, rooms, kennels and runs nest under each other. Match your actual layout - a kennel inside a room inside a building - rather than a flat list.
- Give a kennel a capacity. Optional, but worth it: the kennel board flags a kennel holding more than its stated capacity.
Worth knowing: This is what makes the kennel board and an accurate in-shelter-versus-in-foster count possible. Skipping it means every animal shows up with no kennel, which the board will show you plainly rather than hide.
