How to record an animal coming into your care
A three-step wizard: the animal, how it arrived, and its condition.
- Start an intake. From the Intake screen, choose whether this is a new animal or one already in your system returning.
- Describe the animal. Name (or leave it for later), species, breed, sex, approximate age and photo if you have one.
- Say how it arrived. Stray, owner surrender, transfer in, born in your care, seized, or a return. If it is a transfer, name the agency it came from.
- Record condition and any details. What you observed on arrival. This is what a later report reads back, so a specific note here is worth more than “fine”.
Worth knowing: The intake type you choose here is what feeds Shelter Animals Count reporting later - it is worth getting right the first time rather than fixing it in a spreadsheet at year end.
Your shelter can be running this by the end of the day.
Create your account, verify your organization, and start entering animals. No sales call, no quote, no card. The part of Rescuely that runs a shelter is free and stays free.
